This was our second monitor we bought. It has since been returned. What we did not like about it:

    1. LCD only stays on for a few seconds and then power saves off.

    2. Audio is not a continuous speaker, it only kicks on if it “hears” a sound.

We have a newborn and based on these reviews, we thought it would be perfect. My wife H A T E D this so back it went. It wasn’t that great for a baby monitor, in our opinion.

I own a 2 year old 2.4ghz from Sharper image. I really like this one, but now have 2 children to monitor. The Lorex interfers the signal of my Sharper Image, so I can not use them both as I had hoped to. I do not believe that I will be able to use any other system (this is my 3rd try) so I’ll likely be buying the second camera for the Lorex.

    My phones are dect 6.0.

For the same distance, my Sharper Image monitor is more real time where the Lorex sometimes shows frame by frame movement even within a 10 foot range. I have not tested the range limit yet.

The monitor screen on the Lorex is very good. Its large screen is a bonus and I really like the rechargeable base station. Don’t expect vibrant colors like your TV. I haven’t seen this out of any system that I’ve tried yet.

The negative is as other’s have mentioned, I would prefer to have constant sound. My 2 year old often plays quietly on the floor of her room where she is not within the monitor’s view. I can’t tell if she’s napping under the covers or playing quietly on the floor unless she starts singing or I open the door and blow my ‘free’ time..which isn’t going to happen!

Overall, I believe this to be the best camera on the market. I expect them to improve drastically over the next few years, wish I could wait. :)

  3. I got this monitor to use in my 1 year old son’s room. We had looked at other video monitors, and the one’s marketed as baby monitors just didn’t have the same quality of features as this system did.

    Pros:

-Very easy setup–I took out of box, plugged in AC adapters, placed camera on bookshelf and had an immediate image on the monitor. There is no syncing or programming required. Longest part of setup is waiting for the hand-unit to fully charge (about 4 hours)

-Can connect to your TV using supplied A/V cable. Again this is very simple; just plug in the A/V cable and plug into available input on your TV or receiver. If you have picture in picture you can have the monitors image in the PIP. If you don’t have this feature on your TV, you can just view the image full screen and switch back to cable as needed.

-Since it is digital, it won’t pick up your neighbor’s cameras should they have same system. Also have had no interference with our wifi or cordless phone.

-Small camera easy to blend into decor

-Ability to add additional cameras to view with same handheld unit.

    Cons:

-Additional cameras cost almost as much as full system

-Battery does not last through the night if have the handheld until off the charging cradle, even when not viewing monitor often. We put it in the bed with us, viewed him maybe 3 times for about 1 minute each time, and in the morning couldn’t get the monitor to turn on because the battery was dead. We now just keep it on the cradle next to our bed overnight.

-As other’s have stated, the audio mutes itself if there are no jarring noises after about 15 seconds. Would be better if the audio was always on with the option to mute.

Overall I am very happy with our purchase and have recommended it to our friends who are expecting.

I had originally tried the Sharx SCX2601LD 2.4 GHz Wireless Pan Tilt because you could move the camera around the room remotely. It stopped working after 15 minutes.

I replaced it with the Lorex and it’s been incredible. I have the camera in the basement and the monitor upstairs. I get the clearest picture ever and absolutely no interference of any kind.

It did bother me that the sound would only come on when the baby would make a noise. I liked having a constant sound. But I quickly got used to it. There is about a 1.5 second delay between when the baby makes a sound and when you hear it on the monitor.

We’ve had this for about 1 month now. It’s constantly on and still works beautifully.

An awesome buy, even if I can’t tilt the camera remotely.
